Recipe Ingredients

  • 33.0 grams Shea Butter
  • 90.0 grams Tallow (purified)
  • 33.0 grams Coconut oil
  • 60 grams Beeswax, pellets or grated
  • 6 .0grams Lanolin
  • 24.50 grams Castor oil
  • 10.0 grams Avocado oil
  • 1.0 gram Vitamin E oil
  • 2.0 grams Essential Oil blend

  1. Melt: Combine the Shea butter, tallow, coconut oil, beeswax, and lanolin in a double boiler over low heat.
  2. Stir: Gently stir the mixture for 10-15 minutes until all solids are completely liquefied and the mixture is clear.
  3. Incorporate: Add the castor oil and avocado oil to the melted base, stirring well to ensure a consistent texture.
  4. Cool: Remove the mixture from the heat and allow it to cool slightly for 2-3 minutes (it should still be liquid but not scalding).
  5. Infuse: Whisk in the Vitamin E oil and the Essential oil blend until thoroughly combined.
  6. Pour: Carefully pour the liquid balm into clean tins or tubes while still warm.
  7. Set: Let the balms sit undisturbed at room temperature for 2 hours or until completely firm before capping.
  8. Pro-tip

The "Spoon Test": Before pouring the whole batch, dip a cold metal spoon into the melted mixture and let it set for a minute. This allows you to test the consistency. If it's too soft, add a pinch more beeswax; if it's too hard, add a splash more oil.
